Coaching at Horley Lawn Tennis Club
The coaching team at Horley Lawn Tennis Club provide a range of classes for every age and ability, from Mini Tennis Red to Elite training, group and drop-in sessions to individual lessons. The Coaching Team

The coaching team is led by Justin. He provides a comprehensive coaching programme for juniors and adults that caters for beginners through to performance players. Justin has previously trained as a full time tennis player and has competed in Junior ITFs, French Money tournaments, British tour events and has represented Great Britain in International Schools. He can offer expert advice having worked with many top coaches himself, whether you are a complete beginner or a performance player. Individual lessons - £30 per hour (plus floodlights when needed)

Gareth Balch has been playing tennis since the age of 10, having been a highly successful junior in Australia and then in the UK when he came here to study. In Australia he was one of the famous “Melbourne boys” of national coach Don Tregonning. He captained London University several times, winning full colours twice. As a veteran player Gareth has won tournaments in Bath, Sterling, and Reading.
Holding qualified coaching status and accredited by the LTA (Lawn Tennis Association) and BTCA (British Tennis Coaches Association), Gareth trained as a coach alongside a career as a classical musician, and is now training in the RPT Spanish method of coaching.
Gareth leads on “Tennis for Kids” and the Surrey Youth Games coaching, and is working with the Disability Tennis Foundation to open access to tennis for young adults. He also runs the new Tennis Leadership Award at Horley with our most successful older juniors. He holds qualified teacher status, a degree in Music, a masters in leadership and management, and a PhD in education. He is an honorary Fellow of the Commonwealth Open University.
Gareth is enhanced DBS checked, First Aid trained, and safeguarding trained and fully insured for individual and group teaching.
